The western facade of Indy's new Lucas Oil Stadium.
Saturday there were the first tours of the new Colts' stadium for those of the citizenry who were not well-heeled enough to afford either to attend the $250 admission opening Gala the night before, or season tickets which got you into a more intimate tour the following day.

Duckpin bowling is an old favorite for Indianapolis folks, so I'm not introducing anything new. There are two great Duckpin Bowling alleys in the Fountain Square Theater building downtown, and my friends and I spent Friday night there hanging out, eating pizza, drinking beer and bowling (or trying to!).

It was a hazy Friday night still quite bright for 8:30 as I joined a small group gathered near the steps of the Noblesville court house. People were busy sharing so-you’re-on-a-ghost-tour-too pleasantries, and proffering the requisite $15 to Nicole, our tour guide. We periodically struggled to hear each other over the roar of motorcycles that echoed across the square. Nicole, getting down to business, asked the group, "Is anyone here a skeptic?" Two hands went up immediately: a mother and her teenage son. Nicole acknowledged their skepticism with a friendly smile, and explained that she wasn’t out to convert anyone, and she welcomed their perspectives. With the specter of skepticism safely at bay for the moment, we were off in search of ghosts.

Walking into work the other morning, I saw the front end of what looked to be a "fuzzy" van parked in the lot outside our building. As I circled around it, I noticed a Dark Side of the Moon logo on the side of the van. From a few feet back, the whole thing could have been mistaken for a black velvet painting on wheels.
Too good to pass up, I pulled out my camera to get a good shot of the artwork. As I was getting ready to snap my second shot, a friendly voice behind me said, "what do you think?" Henry Pelc had just caught me in the act of checking out his ride.

Ganked from Yahoo's AP feed no less...
GAS CITY, Ind. - The museum chronicling the short life of James Dean has closed after struggling financially since its opening in 2004.
David Loehr, owner of the James Dean Gallery, announced in December that he planned to close the museum, but an outpouring of contributions led him to give it another try.
It ultimately shut down at the end of February, though, and Loehr has packed up and placed the memorabilia in storage.
David Loehr is also the man behind the Rockabilly Rebel Week-Ender (a national event spanning fourteen years) and is usually involved in Fairmount's James Dean Days.
You gave it a good go, Dave! Good luck with your future projects.

For weeks now (months maybe?) I have been driving by a little spot of construction just north of Broad Ripple on College. The construction was located on the south side of the bridge over White River. When I passed by a couple days ago, a gorgeous blue sculpture was standing there!
Unfortunately, I haven't found much information about it, just a small sign on the www.mybroadripple.com sign at the corner of 62nd and Collage: "Tim Ryan Sculpture Unveiling Wed 4 PM" and some pics for a 'Gateway Presentation'.
Anybody got more information about this sculpture?

Holiday World/Splashin' Safari, the 59-year-old amusement park in southern Indiana, (which used to be known as "Santa Claus Land") has started their own blog which appears to be written by park employees. It's pretty amusing, and a nice way for their park to be accessible to their attendees. Their goal is to share the history of the park and to show all the preparation required before their opening day on May 7th.

Drinking water used to be so easy: Get a cup, find a tap, fill with water, drink, repeat. But these days even something so simple as water can get complicated.

As part of their program to promote safer driving, State Farm Insurance compiled a list of the 10 most dangerous intersections in Indiana, using data determined by the number of crashes at various intersections, how many of those crashes involved injury and the severity of those crashes.
Eight of these dangerous intersections are in or around metropolitan Indianapolis, so we daredevils here at IndyScribe, along with co-workers and friends, decided it would be fun to pick one local dangerous intersection per week to photograph on our lunch break.

The Indianapolis Star put together a list of "what and who will be noteworthy in the Indianapolis arts scene this year." And it's a big yawner, to say the least. My favorite noteworthy event is that Deer Creek (I refuse to use the corporate name for the concert facility, and you can't make me) is getting another gateway and expanded roads to ease traffic snarls at the venue north of Indianapolis. I'm not denying that it needs to happen, but is it one of the hot events of 2005?
