Indiana's Dangerous Intersections
As part of their program to promote safer driving, State Farm Insurance compiled a list of the 10 most dangerous intersections in Indiana, using data determined by the number of crashes at various intersections, how many of those crashes involved injury and the severity of those crashes.
Eight of these dangerous intersections are in or around metropolitan Indianapolis, so we daredevils here at IndyScribe, along with co-workers and friends, decided it would be fun to pick one local dangerous intersection per week to photograph on our lunch break.
Brent Mundy mapped out the project in his cube and planned our strategies for getting to each intersection in the hour we had available. We opted to organize by distance from work rather than by danger index. The most dangerous intersection turned out to be 71st Street and Michigan, where a driver was killed in a traffic accident the day before our visit. And we did see accidents at 10th and Shadeland (ambulance in photo) and 86th Street & Township Line Road (accident in the distance). One of our co-workers, Jim, was in an accident himself at 82nd Street & Allisonville Road the day before we visited.
